avoid strings + listview

is there way of using listview without putting data into the string table; I only see a string function to get the column values(getColumnValue)?

1. Create a listView with an empty string array (e.g. empty[] = {})
2. insertColumn(s) into the listView DBE
3. fill the listView with string content:
   1. use insert for the column number 0
   2. use set for all other columns (column != 0)

WIth this recipe is the listView my favorite DBE for showing many information.
